Microemulsion Technique

In recent years, a variety of methods have been developed for the preparation of lipid nanoparticles. Among them, microemulsion extrusion technology is the most widely used because of its advantages of being fast, cheap, repeatable, and organic solvent-free. Creative Biolabs specializes in the lipid nanoparticle production field with numerous effective techniques, including microemulsion techniques.

Instruction of Microemulsions Technique

Lipid nanoparticles are colloidal lipid carriers widely employed as efficient drug delivery systems. Lipid nanoparticles can be achieved from microemulsions technique. To summarize, a mixture of water and Tween 20 was heated at a favorable temperature, then they will be dispersed in cold water. Under this procedure, solid lipid nanoparticles will be successfully formed. Solid lipid nanoparticles can carry different structures and lipophilicity drugs, which mainly contain curcuminoids, clotrimazole, doxorubicin.

Applications of Microemulsion Technique

  • Curcuminoids loaded solid lipid nanoparticles

Curcuminoids loaded solid lipid nanoparticles were successfully obtained from the microemulsion technique. Compared to free curcuminoids, the stability of curcuminoids in the cream formulation was strongly increased. Moreover, the sensitivity of curcumin to light and oxygen is significantly reduced when curcumin is added to the solid lipid nanoparticles. Therefore, much attention has been focused on solid lipid nanoparticles that are emerging as valuable delivery carrier systems for light and oxygen sensitive substances.

  • Codelivery systems produced by microemulsion extrusion

The codelivery systems of drugs and genes by lipid nanoparticles play a crucial role in carrying drugs and genes together. The delivery systems were produced by microemulsion extrusion, and the codelivery systems were described as a new strategy for delivering the phosphatase and tensin homolog tumor suppressor gene and chemotherapeutic drug methotrexate into cancer cells. Furthermore, some studies presented that the produced lipid nanoparticles were stable and versatile to be applied to drug and gene delivery.

  • A new microemulsion technique for encapsulation of clotrimazole

Some studies have shown a novel microemulsion technique - the microwave-assisted microemulsion method. Microwave-assisted one-pot microemulsion method was used for lipid nanoparticles production. The solid lipid nanoparticles might have significant advantages in the clotrimazole carrier system. What is more, clotrimazole was succeeded in incorporated into solid lipid nanoparticles by microwave-assisted microemulsion way. All these findings demonstrate that lipid nanoparticles will be used as potential carriers for clotrimazole and possibly other antifungal drugs which can later be developed to be used in the treatment of candida infections.

The microemulsion technique is one of the most widely employed methods to produce lipid nanoparticles. Creative Biolabs is a deserving expert who masters the technique to support your project requirements. Please contact us for more information and a detailed quote.
