Creative Biolabs is one of the well-recognized experts who are professionals in the field of mRNA delivery. Now, we are proud to offer a series of reagents for mRNA delivery, such as waxes (beeswax).
SLNs are made from lipids that are solid at room temperature and with tailorable melting temperature. They can encapsulate enormous amounts of lipophilic compounds, and hydrophilic ones and efficiently deliver the drugs to the targeted tissues. They have unique properties like small size, large surface area, high drug-loading capacity, and solid lipid phase interaction. The protection of sensitive drug molecules from the outer environment (water and light) and controlled release characteristics can be claimed by incorporating drugs in the SLNs. Several lipid excipients can be used to produce SLNs, among which fatty acids, fatty alcohols, mono-, di- and triglycerides, vegetable oils, and waxes (e.g., beeswax) are the most frequently used.
Waxes are defined as long-chain fatty acids esterified to fatty alcohols. The long-chain and high melting points of the main components of wax are responsible for their excellent crystallization properties. Beeswax is a natural fatty material with a melting point ranging between 61 oC and 67 oC, obtained from the combs of bees (Apis mellifera). Beeswax contains a mixture of hydrocarbons, fatty acids, esters of fatty acids, alcohols, and diesters. It has been extensively studied and applied in the production of drug delivery systems for many pharmaceutical formulations. It is a potential material due to its physical properties, biodegradability, skin biocompatibility, and antimicrobial activity.

It is possible to obtain low structural organization and nano-sized systems using stearic acid and beeswax as solid lipids. The molecules can be effectively incorporated into the nanoparticles. Beeswax particles, mainly nanostructured lipid carriers, have higher drug loading than stearic acid nanoparticles. One study has demonstrated that beeswax could be very useful in preparing stable SLNs when combined with phospholipid with or without goat fat. Because of the lower crystallinity of the mixed lipid, nanoparticles will perform better as lipid nanoparticle delivery systems as they will hold more molecules than single lipid nanoparticles.
