Creative Biolabs is one of the well-recognized experts who is very professional in the production of lipid nanoparticles through the double emulsion technique.
Many kinds of dispersed droplets are distributed in the droplets of the dispersed phase of double emulsions. Warm w/o/w double microemulsions are a typical example of the double emulsion method. In a typical experiment, there are two steps of warm w/o/w double microemulsions: in the first step, a mixture of melted lipid, surfactant and co-surfactant at a temperature was heated above melting temperature to obtain the first emulsion; in the second step, a mixture of water, surfactant and co-surfactant was added to the so prepared first emulsion to formed a clear w/o/w system. Solid lipid nanoparticles can be obtained by dispersing the warm micro double emulsions in cold and then washed with dispersion medium by an ultra filtration system. Double emulsions are considered as a benefit delivery system for hydrophobic and hydrophilic drugs and other products.

Aspirin is a widely utilized nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It is intended to reduce pain in some diseases. Aspirin and prednisolone drugs have been embodied into nanoparticles through a double emulsion process to improve stability. In addition, anti-inflammatory drugs encapsulated by the double emulsion process also included ketoprofen, aceclofenac, diclofenac sodium and acetaminophen.
Gentamicin is an important aminoglycoside drug that has been widely used to treat osteomyelitis and fight against gram bacterias. However, it may cause systemic toxicity by extending the dose of antibiotics to treat osteomyelitis. Based on the consideration above, localized drug delivery of gentamicin has been performed via the double emulsion method. Many antibiotics have been encapsulated by double emulsion techniques, such as clindamycin, gentamicin, norfloxacin, and erythromycin.
Among anticancer drugs, doxorubicin, cisplatin, fluorouracil and epirubicin have been encapsulated by the double emulsion method. Compared with the conventional solid lipid nanoparticles, this technique proved to be a more effective way.
Encapsulation of Biopharmaceuticals via Double emulsion Method
In recent years, advancements in the field of genetic engineering have enhanced the importance of peptides and proteins as therapeutic agents. However, some hurdles restrict its applications, such as the short half-life and degradation. Based on the above reasons, there has been an increased interest in the double emulsion encapsulation technique. Although the double emulsion encapsulation technique is a complex process, many proteins have been encapsulated via this technique. For example, bovine serum albumin and insulin were successfully encapsulated via the double emulsion encapsulation technique.
Nucleic acid drugs have many applications at the gene level. However, the efficient delivery to the site of interest without its degradation is a major challenge. For this purpose, encapsulation of nucleic acid drugs inside biodegradable polymer is selected. Nucleic acid drugs have been embodied into liposomes through double emulsion to improve their stability.
